Help for a new player?
Hey guys well i just bought the Guild Wars complete collection so i got all 4 of the campaigns. I'm really enjoying the game, but i was wondering if you guys would be cool enough to give me some tips.
Like anything to get my account started. Any tips for special farming classes? Just anything that you wish you would have known when you started. Thanks guys for any help! |

depends what you want to farm. rits are safe choice. monks get steady work. mesmers are in high demand currently especially at DOA. sins are generally tops, but who knows if/when arena net might nerf that.
play thru the whole game once from prophecies in order. note: grab some heros after getting to lions arch by going to elona/kamadan and doing the hero quests. then go back finish up prophecies and factions. wiki is your friend... type /wiki xxxxxx for basic info. |

Take your time and enjoy exploring Tyria.
Never, ever drop anything on the ground so some else can see/SS it. If they ask you to, they're trying to steal it from you. With your new account, you can get free Zaishen Keys. Don't give them to anyone. You can sell them for 5,000 - 6,000 gold each. A big chunk of change for a new player! Try out different professions to see what you like. Each one plays a bit differently from any of the others. You can change your attribute points anytime your in town, so you can't permanently mess your character up that way. (It's a good idea not to spread them over more than 3 attributes) If you start out with a Prophecies Character, get to level 7 or 8 before going to the acadamy. Also, dyes are worth more than the 1g that the merchant will offer you for them. One Black Dye is worth anywhere from 7 to 10K. |

My biggest confusion when i started to play the game was the armor upgrades. Runes, insignias, etc etc.. I suggest you to go read that on wiki, got everything explained there.
Also, if you are a warrior, please don't go W/Mo with Healing Breeze and Orison of Healing. I suggest you to read some guides (wiki or forum) to check each profession's playstyle and choose the one you like. If you need any help in game or ask something, don't hesitate .IGN: Guardian The First. Have fun! Last edited by TiagoS1; Jul 18, 2011 at 08:51 AM // 08:51.. |

If you're in no rush to speed through the game, start a character in Prophecies, make sure you do all the skill related quests to unlock as many skills as you can for free (In Factions, NF and EotN you have to pay for most of the skills you want to use).
Links to the skill quests are here on the official and unofficial wikis. Until you reach level 20, take note of what level the hireable NPC's (henchmen) are - if they are higher than your own character level, that's a good indication your character is too low a level for that area and you'll need to gain more experience 1st before moving forward. Otherwise, if you're more interested in levelling fast in order to start farming, maybe start in Factions with a Ritualist or an Assassin (or Monk or Necro, all can farm, but someone else will have to advise which is best choice for that ) Would also be a good idea to find a goodGuild to join, especially handy for some in-game guidance and assistance with missions. As other's have said, definitely read up on any guides and wiki's for in-game information. Above all, play to enjoy yourself! Cheers, and welcome to GW |

Save all the crafting items that drop, identify everything, salvage every "high salvage" item. It really is easy to make money in GW but it is much easier to spend it, so try hard to avoid impulse purchases.
First time through the game you should just get a max armor set, don't worry about its looks. Equip it with insignia's and runes, make sure you put the correct rune on your helmet for the +1 bonus! Get a couple of max weapon sets with different mods that suit the builds you use. Do every quest that gives you a skill as a reward, buy every other skill you can and cap every elite that you come across. Skills that might look weak by themselves can become very strong when paired with the another skill. Above all else, HAVE FUN! |

Don't do this noob mistake that I did twice before I realized my fail: if you upgrade your current armor with runes and insignias, when you get yourself armor with better stats, don't just sell it and buy the new armor and new runes and insignias. Strip your armor of the old runes and insignias and apply them to your new armor.
Also, as said above, identify everything, including white items. Someone will come up and say that whites under a certain amount are not worth identifying (and they are correct), but frankly, I just identify everything, so I can do it any time by reflex, like turning the gas off or locking the door. When you'll realize the real value of money in GW, you'll see that identifying is a pretty cheap process. Also, if you need some quick cash to get started, make a Prophecies character and sit in Pre-Searing Alcalon and make money by being a GM. |

What this guy is trying to say is - don't try to be a warrior and a healer. Warriors have a very small energy pool, and not much regen - they tend to be adrenaline based. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't be a W/Mo, it's just that the Mo part should only be for a "hard" rez like Resurrect or Rebirth and the rest should be warrior stuff.

Thank you so much guys. This community is amazing. Also i just got 1 more question. I'm not really sure where to sell items for more than the merchant. I know theres the trade chat, but it doesn't really seem effective as i get no offers.
Again thanks for all the help guys. Ya'll are awesome! |

Ok heres the thing selling to the merchant is instant selling to players takes two things. 1 lots of time 2 having something worthwhile to sell. Unless you have found something really great selling to players is a waste of effort. You could wait around in one of the main trading centers Lions Arch Kamadan etc and watch what players are asking for. Then go farm that. Scarce materials such as feathers Granite slabs or glittering dust are often wanted and far easier to sell than a weapon. Ditto runes and inscriptions check out the more expensive ones at the rune seller and keep an eye out for them. Black and also white dyes are quite valuable. Personally I would rather sell to the merchant and get back to finding more stuff than stand around for an hour achieving nothing and hoping for a good price. Until you know the market don't expect great results selling to players. |

The Trade chat is not global, btw. It's only local to the particular outpost and district you're in. The trade items in the Search box are visible to all regional districts, but still only within the particular outpost. Which is why people tend to do their trading in the main towns. On a further point for New players regarding salvage.
You will find some foes drop armour remnants these cannot be worn by your character. They can simply be salvaged for materials or if they are blue purple or gold in colour they contain runes and inscriptions you can salvage the runes and use them yourself but must use an expert or superior salvage kit to do this. "or charr salvage kit in presearing prophesies" the charr ones are very rare and expensive. note if another player says he will sell you his characters suit of armour do not buy it, armour from one character can only be worn by the character that crafted it. You can of course salvage it or extract runes but don't be fooled that your buying good armour you can wear. |

Some items you can sell for more than merchantprice to other NPCs, check out the specific traders (dye/material traders etc). Most of those type of traders are in embark as well as spread out throughout the world. Another thing, when you merch an item, always identify it first - the value will increase. Even white items! |
